“I barely started considering myself a writer last week.
Ok not really, but it has taken me a while. Coming to terms with the fact that aspiring writer no longer suited me was interesting. Largely because it forced me to face the reality that for me, success has long been tied up in monetary gain. That single thing has caused me to discount plenty of my accomplishments.
Figuring they couldn’t be THAT worthwhile if no dollar amount was attached. If I think about the facts,
they would show that I’ve been writing since I was a tinier me.
What I didn’t have language for then, and am working on now, is that I wasn’t an aspiring writer.
I was aspiring to be paid for my writing...”

many of you here have jumped

“when is the book coming sis?!”
or “how did you start writing?”
honestly, I don’t remember not doing it.
I wasn’t always good that’s for sure,
but discovering your voice is just that,
finding it.
you’ve got to seek it out,
help it become less of a whisper,
grow from a murmur into a
thing so poignant it can cut through
the noise,
straight to the core like a double edged
sword.

a trend you can’t get enough
of,
yeah Black folks did that.

we’ve been trailblazing for
centuries,
only to be closed out of rooms
pushed onto the curb
after we’ve been bled dry for
our ideas.
and yet, we keep on giving.
continuously providing the
world with a little bit of genius
to take with them everywhere
into everything.

honor to the ones who have
taught you style, grace,& poise.
show some love to those who
have made your fav song,
given you a slang word you
probably don’t know the origin of.
