Unless you never pick up a magazine and only scroll Instagram once a week then you’ve probably noticed that polka dots are trending. With every season comes the print that we can’t seemingly live without. The test here is always deciding whether or not you’ll indulge but also how. It isn’t bad to jump feet first into a trend but you want to make sure that it fits in line with what you’re already doing. For me polka dots can go from preschool playground to runway but it’s all in how you style them. Want to elevate your spots? Keeping reading.

I’m a self-proclaimed stripe girl. I mean I love them, I’ve screamed my affinity for them here a few times and they were the star of my bridal party four years ago. But when polka dots popped up on the scene I was immediately intrigued. From brown and creme dresses to black and white spotted items, I’ve grabbed a couple to bring into the fold. Because dots are everywhere it may be tempted to just pick up whatever you see so you can be down. My suggestion is to give the trend a little more attention.

In lieu of getting another t-shirt to add to the collection you’ve already got, think about getting more of a statement piece with the pattern. Something like this oversized t-shirt dress proved to be the best way for me to incorporate the trend into what I already do. That’s the key to creating style and building a wardrobe – always stick to what works for you. One of my favorite things about myself is my legs, which is why dresses and lifting sneakers work for me.

For me trends can come and go, which is also why I don’t like to spend too much money on following them. Unless I feel like it’s something that is like an elevated classic. Shirt dresses? Classic. In pink and purple polka dot? Not so much. Choosing to purchase this dress in black and white will allow me to keep wearing it even after polka dots die down for a while again. Truth is all fashion makes a come back and if you buy smart you won’t have to rebuy something else when it does.

Fanny packs are all the rage and I’m sad that one I had a few years ago broke and couldn’t be salvaged. I bought this on a whim of wanting one and to be honest, I don’t love it. This is an example of one of those moments when I bought into the trend but didn’t get something that made sense for me. To elevate the trend? I should have gone with something designer, that way when it inevitably dies out again, my bag will still have some staying power.

Are you jumping on the polka dot bandwagon? If not, what trend are you looking to elevate?

kisses,
