I had the pleasure a couple of months ago of being a guest on the phenomenal Super Mamas podcast. Hosted by sisters Paulina and Bricia, they tackle topics that anyone can relate to but most importantly mothers. It was an awesome time spent discussing entrepreneurship, mom guilt, and how I got started as a business woman. When they sent over an invite for me and the party of five to hit up their annual social, I was ecstatic. In the heart of Downtown LA near Olivera Street they set up a deliciously beautiful event. I left feeling inspired and excited about their next move.
The social was chock to the brim with a myriad of Latino owned businesses from sweet treats to micheladas plus lunch provided by Melissa’s and juices from Suja. It can be a trial with many tribulations when trying to educate brands on why partnering with women of color or Black women is a wise investment. I was wowed when we stepped into their magical mint colored dream at these brands and companies being genius enough to partner with the Super Mamas. My mind focuses on branding and aesthetics, so I was impressed at the onset. From the welcome pack I received to each of the art installations serving as photo backdrops no detail was missed. My family and I instantly were caught up in the majesty of it all.
I appreciated that there was a place for kids to play, enough food and drink to be content, and even setups for a little retail therapy…
As each guest took the stage to share her story I enjoyed being able to listen in without having to park my kids front and center to listen too. A special shoutout goes out to the ladies who introduced themselves to me saying that they thoroughly enjoyed my episode. I was super flattered! Being at the social only made me sad that there isn’t something as beautiful for Black women here in LA. It would be fabulous to have an event of this magnitude that is geared toward the needs and stories surrounding what it means to be a Black mother as well. Nonetheless I still felt each and every moment of the social could be enjoyed by anyone.
