The first thing that popped into my head as I sat to write this was “Goinnnn’ down the Bayoouuuuuu…” the little ditty from “Princess and the Frog” – clearly I’m a mother. Disney movies are my soundtrack, I’ve got to get a life. Anyway, here’s a recap of my weekend in the Crescent City, Nawlins’, land of Beignets and Gumbo – New Orleans! Let’s be honest I don’t go anywhere to stay on the tourist path. I don’t want to soak up sites next to folks who are content staying on one street calling it a vacation. Husband and I like to get off the beaten path and enjoy the cities we visit how the natives do.
Let me just take the time here to thank my alma mater, Howard University (HUUUU!!) for blessing me with these gals. Each and every one of them means the world to me, we were missing a few but even in their absence good times were had. Walking down the streets surrounded by jazz and laughs made me happy inside and out. Just look at that #BlackGirlMagic!
Of course when in New Orleans a stop at Cafe Du Monde is mandatory – don’t ever be deterred by the long line it moves quickly especially if you stand in the to-go one. But be advised they accept cash only to keep it flowing smoothly. My girls and I bonded over three bags worth – sugar gorge. And worth every bite.
Traveling is the greatest way to add to your life, experiencing new places and seeing new sites expands you in ways that staying in your comfort zone never can. I love that I can hop on a plane and soak up culture should the feeling strike. Airports are actually some of my favorite places – the hustle, the prime people watching, and the stranger you may encounter who could change your life. They’re full of so much possibility.
