As a native Angeleno, I have my share of favorite LA museums. But last summer when I got wind of a brand new contemporary art mecca coming to Downtown my interest was piqued. I was finally able to secure tickets to visit The Broad and it was everything I hoped it would be. That’s why it has been selected as a HAUTE spot!
Be advised that the Broad is free but you should reserve tickets to guarantee entry otherwise you will suffer and have to wait in a line that, on the weekend, is at least two hours long if not more. That said you can go online to thebroad.org select a day and time that works for you and in you go. Also, for ease download the app it houses your tickets, a map to to the museum, and more. You can take photos and videos also, as long as it isn’t flash photography – forgive my grainy pics, that’s an iPhone for ya. Ensure that all the exhibits you want to see are included with your general admission because there may be some exhibits that require a separate reservation, i.e. The Mirror Room. Don’t learn the hard way like I did!

The Broad is a delightfully well curated space that is engaging and beautiful. The biggest WTF moment for me was finding out that The Broad is the family’s personal collection – talk about amazing! Can you imagine creating a museum to house your collection?! One of Lil D’s favorite things was seeing the vault of all the art underneath the third floor. The racks and racks of creativity had her spellbound. Be sure to take the stairs after you take in the elevator you won’t be disappointed.
